How important is it for the superintendent to have a strong relationship with the school board's leadership team?
A school board plays an essential part in your role as a superintendent. To build strong relationships with the school's leadership team, you should focus on effective communication and collaboration. Regular meetings and open lines of communication can help to establish trust and build a sense of teamwork. It's also important to actively listen to the concerns and ideas of the leadership team and provide support and resources to help them achieve their goals. By working together and fostering a culture of mutual respect and collaboration, you can create a strong and effective leadership team capable of achieving great things for the school and its students. Assure the interviewer that you are engaged and interested in getting to know your leadership and school board.
"I believe it is essential for the school superintendent to know everyone who plays a leadership role in the school. For that reason, I hold a semi-annual leadership event where everyone has a chance to network. I like to become involved with my leadership staff and board as much as possible."

The relationship between the superintendent and the school board is extremely important. As the superintendent, it is my role to help create a strong bond with all team members. Everyone has a story to tell, and we all understand each others' intentions a bit deeper when we know each others' stories. I set time aside for making personal connections and figuring out what inspires others.

It is absolutely critical. We need to be unified and support one another. While we may disagree in the executive session, we need to come out and present a unified front and support the decision made even when it is contrary to our own. The team is more important than me.

It is extremely important for a superintendent to have strong relationships with the school board. The school board and the superintendent set the vision for the school district as a whole. Being on the same team and working toward the best interest of the students is vital. At a minimum, I like to hold one retreat each summer to talk about our vision and review policies. It is very beneficial to the work and to help build relationships.

Nice answer! You bring a great perspective, and the interviewers should appreciate your enthusiasm for relationship building. If you have an example of your relationship-building skills in action (i.e., how you built a relationship with the board when your superintendent was absent due to health issues), it would be a perfect addition to your reply.
