Can you discuss how routing protocols work and in what situations they fail?
During the interview, you will be asked many different technical questions about topics relevant to the role of a senior network engineer. You should be able to respond to the interviewer's question with a simple, straightforward definition of the technology, a brief description of how it is used, and perhaps an example to demonstrate your answer. Always be prepared for a follow-up question if the interviewer needs more information to explore the topic in more detail.
"There are several different routing protocols. However, they all perform three basic functions. The first is discovery, which identifies other routers on the network. Next, it manages routing destinations and pathways. The final function is to determine where to send the data packets and the most effective route to send them by. Different routing protocols add additional features to these three basic functions such as preconfiguring links to increase the efficiency of the network."
