How would you explain the role of a product specialist to someone who was not familiar with the job?

"I am often asked at social occasions what I do. Suppose the person to whom I'm speaking is not familiar with this role. In that case, I tell them that a product specialist is responsible for guiding a product through the development cycle from conception to release. I participate in the initial product specification and design process, work with the engineering team to create the product, collaborate with the people who will produce it, and help the marketing and sales teams identify their customers and present the product to them in a way that generates interest and the desire to purchase it."
