Why the Interviewer Asks This Question
This question is similar to asking you which of your children is your favorite. While both of these technologies have their merits, each needs to be used appropriately to be effective in a computer network architecture. The interviewer knows this and expects you to provide an answer which describes the benefits of each type of network connection and give examples of when they are appropriate in the design.

Answer Example
"I really have no preference between wireless and hard-wired network connections. Both are viable technologies when used appropriately and can result in a network topology that performs effectively and efficiently. Often, I architect networks that contain both of these technologies. I use hardwire cabling when the location of the computer equipment is known, and the transmissions between the servers, routers, and other pieces of equipment need to be secure and reliable. Wireless technology provides the option to communicate with many devices simultaneously and accommodates users who bring their own devices or move around the facility frequently."
