What is the definition of network topology?

When responding to a technical question requiring you to define a term, you start by first defining the term, then describe how it is used. You may want to provide an example or two that illustrate your answer. Doing all three of these will convince the interviewer that you're qualified for this position and have the background needed to do the job.

"Network topology is defined as the physical layout of the computer network. It consists of all the nodes on the network, the connections provided by wiring or wireless technology, and the devices used to route traffic, such as routers and switches. If the network is a WAN or extends outside of the organization's physical locations, the topology may also include the internet, clouds, or other third-party communication systems."
