"Any device used to communicate information across the network is defined as a node. The connections between the nodes, consisting of some type of cable or wireless technology and switches and routing devices used to direct the traffic, are known as links. The nodes allow users to connect, share information and provide access to network devices. The links carry the information across the network, directing it to the correct node in expediting it through intelligent switching and routing. Taken together, nodes and links are the backbone of any Computer Network."
