If hired, when could you start?
If you are currently employed, it is customary to give your employer two weeks' notice before leaving. Your interviewer will understand and think it is respectful of you not to leave your current job without notice. If you are not employed, the best response is that you can start immediately. It shows your enthusiasm and eagerness to begin working for their organization.
"I am currently working at a preschool, but I gave my two weeks' notice one week ago. My employer understands that I am changing career paths, but they have not found someone to fill my position. I need to fulfill my obligation to them, so I can start in one week."
