Firms like KPMG will ask this question to Intern candidates, as they are looking for future leaders who naturally take on opportunities to guide others with confidence.
Working at a Big 4 firm, you will need to have a succession plan which includes continually growing your strong leadership skills. As an Intern, leadership traits are necessary to complete your work, whether helping to take care of the engagement team during their busy season or making decisions about process and organization while completing your work under tight deadlines.
To deliver an answer to this behavioral-based interview question, try using the STAR answer method, an acronym for Situation, Task, Action, Result. Using STAR, tell a story of when you took on a leadership role even if being a leader wasn't expected.

"During a group project last semester in my Marketing 2140 class, we were at a point where we were stuck as a group and weren't sure how to proceed. A few of my group members wanted to go and ask the professor, but I felt that we should show some initiative and try other avenues before reaching out to our professor. I led the group through a research project that they thought was impossible, and with the proper coaching, guidance, and instilling confidence in my group members, we completed the research. Best of all, we did not have to go to the professor for help. I am proud to say that we ended up earning an A on the project!"
