GE Healthcare values employees with the ability to be self-starters and work independently at times. Consider a time you may have taken the lead on a project or identified a problem and taken the initiative to address it and problem-solve. If you do not have experience in the workplace, consider a time you took the initiative as a student or as part of a volunteer group. Assure the interviewer that you are a go-getter and aren't going to wait to be asked what to do.

"I noticed we were taking at least 2 hours a week on a manual report that seemed to be a big waste of time. I started playing around in our system with the different reporting features and was able to test and customize a report that could take the place of the manual report. After my testing, I brought the idea to my boss, who made a few tweaks but was thrilled I had discovered a more efficient way to give customers the same information."

"I volunteered for a small, local organization while I was in school. I noticed that the onboarding for new volunteers was very disorganized and chaotic. Once I got settled into my role there, I volunteered to create a streamlined onboarding process for new volunteers. It included an orientation schedule and agenda with different leaders covering certain topics. I also printed all of the paperwork and made packets so that everything was in one place. I did a survey of the new volunteers, and all rated the onboarding and orientation process as excellent!"
