A study related to workplace safety found only 2 in 5 employees felt comfortable reporting unsafe behavior and the average employee performs three unsafe acts per week. Baker Hughes's ideal candidate will protect their assets, reputation, and interests by reporting unsafe work or unsavory behavior in the workplace and adhere to their stringent safety regulations. Therefore, this question is aimed at assessing your commitment to safety.

"In my previous role, I often witnessed coworkers engaging in high-risk, dangerous work while fatigued. Overexertion is common in the field, too focussed on trying to get the job done as quickly as possible, working harder, not smarter, without taking proper breaks and rests. I often reminded my coworkers to take a break and offered to jump in or call someone new to the floor to take over. I also often reminded them to wear their proper personal protective equipment. Safety gear is non-negotiable, so I would promptly approach them and gently remind them to protect themselves. Safety rules are in place for everyone's protection, so I will do everything I can to uphold them. If a teammate regularly ignores these practices, or if I felt they were repeatedly putting themselves or others in harm's way, I would report it. It's the right thing to do."
According to HireVue's interview builder, a novice is someone who is "disorganized and unable to pay the attention required to deliver accurate and high-quality work, dismisses the importance of their responsibilities and fails to take ownership of their performance, and tends to be lazy and careless when delivering in their job role." And Baker Hughes states, "all employees are encouraged to take an active role in promoting a positive safety culture. Health, safety, and environmental excellence is a core part of our operating culture. The cornerstone of these efforts is our HSE Days, we celebrate every workday we complete with no injuries, accidents, or harm to the environment. We remain fiercely committed to improvement and learning from our experiences. In addition to measuring safety performance outcomes, we use leading indicators such as observations, near misses, and stop work events to measure the health and maturity of our systems and to identify hazards."
