This question is aimed at determining how effectively you would be able to represent their company and whether you would be able to adhere to the Baker Hughes Code of Conduct. According to their code, this requires ensuring that communications are accurate, forthright, in good faith, with due care, competence, and diligence, without misrepresenting material facts or allowing independent judgment to be subordinated. This includes respecting confidentiality, that company information is not to be used for personal advantage, and that you conduct yourself with fairness, honesty, integrity, and professionalism.
"I would say I am a strong communicator, whether verbally or written. I easily recognize unclear or messy communication when I see it, and make efforts to clarify until I am sure the intention of the message is clear and received. I would describe my communication as clear, concise, and thorough. I am adaptable and recognize when written communication is a necessary follow-up to verbal communication. I'd say I am empathetic as well, an active listener, and situationally objective."
Being an effective communicator, verbally and in written form, is an essential skill. Your aim is to come across as an expert rather than a novice, so focus on what the algorithm evaluates and how it scores. HireVue states you will be scored on "the content of your message, the meaning in your message, and the emotion you express." This includes your consistency, attention to detail, and how well you are able to communicate complex matters in the simplest of terms. As Baker Hughes advises, "Share a positive, consistent and simple message."
Practice speaking in a natural and evenly paced tone. Try not to speak too fast. Rushing through your responses is a sign of stress or nervous behavior. Moderate your tone to come across as confident and relaxed, more like an equal speaking among your peers. Speak with purpose. Spend time meditating on what you want to say. Take into consideration the positive or negative undertone of every word you choose. Enunciate your words, avoiding stutters or long pauses. Limit over-use of any speech crutch words such as like, ah, er, um, and you know. Lastly, attest to your integrity and strength of character, and how you take pride in protecting your company through the utmost professional conduct.
