Example Answer

"It feels like the perfect working environment for me. I want to work for a company with a proven track record of actionable steps that reflect its values and mission statement. They celebrate diversity and sustainability, protect their user's privacy, and have shown the highest level of integrity of any company I know. I want to work for a company where I feel like I perfectly fit in, and I want to work somewhere where I am proud to work. That's what Apple looks like to me."

The Goal

By inquiring why you want to work for Apple, they are curious if your reason for choosing them is strong or if you have a track record of taking jobs that aren't a good fit, of which Apple could be another. They'll need to assess your commitment to the role you are applying to or if you'll take what you need and move on.

Their goal is to find the candidate whose personality seems suited to this role, is most aligned with their values, mission, and brand, and would complement their team, environment, and culture. Research the company and yourself to see how well the two align. Save them the trouble and do their homework for them.

What You Need to Know

They are asking you to give them a reason they should hire you. The algorithm will study your behavior to ascertain whether you truly believe what you are saying. As difficult as it is to come across as natural when you are addressing a computer algorithm, remember that the hiring authority will review the recording later. Practice in front of your computer's camera and record yourself answering some of the questions in this set to get the hang of it. You want to avoid coming across as too rehearsed and sounding too wooden or dull. Try not to look at yourself either; maintain eye contact with the camera lens so you can avert sending the algorithm any mixed signals. Exude confidence, and communicate clearly. Align your interests with the elements of what this opportunity offers, and sincerely believe in your messaging.
