As a professional, you must remain on task and focused even when your motivation levels may not be high. Adyen has a lot of fun in the office, but they also want to know that you are highly diligent and disciplined. Staying focused and on task can be challenging when you're feeling unmotivated at work. However, you can do a few things to help motivate yourself and get back on track.
One approach that can be helpful is to break down your work into smaller, more manageable tasks. This can make your work feel less overwhelming and more achievable. Additionally, try to find ways to make your work more enjoyable. For example, you might try listening to music or taking breaks to chat with coworkers. Remember, it's okay to take breaks and give yourself a little time to recharge. Nobody is wholly motivated 100% of the time but do assure the interviewer that you can quickly get yourself back on track.

"When I am not completely on task, I will take a quick walk or run to the nearest Starbucks for a coffee. I am usually very focused, so if I am feeling foggy, it's just my body telling me to change my pace for a few minutes."

"As a manager, I need to keep myself and my team motivated as much as possible. I will run contests for gift cards or inter-office competitions with some rewards attached. Seeing the energy from my team keeps me motivated on days that I may not be feeling as energized as I could."

If I am feeling foggy:
" I find a five minute break helps "” no screens.
" I also find that exercise helps "” I feel like a monster, after a good exercise session.
If I am having trouble engaging:
" I tell myself that I will do a task for 2 minutes, then stop.
You can do almost anything, for 2 minutes.
By the end of the 2 minutes "” I have started understanding the task, and forming connections "” the task becomes self rewarding.

Rachelle's Feedback

When I feel that my mind is getting bogged down, I get up and spend 5 minutes with my kids, or throw a few rounds of darts. Sometimes I go outside and throw the ball for my dogs and give them some love. Then I am usually ready to proceed with the task at hand.
Marcie's Feedback
Great! It sounds like you know of several ways to recharge yourself throughout the day. How about motivating yourself to complete the task by rewarding yourself at certain milestones? You might also break down the tasks into smaller, more manageable goals and focus on the big picture (the why) so you stay motivated. Be sure to remind the interviewer that you are capable of powering through tedious tasks and give an example of a time when you did this successfully. Good job!
