Adyen is known for promoting top innovators. They are not hung up on the number of years of experience you bring; instead, they want to see that you can perform! The interviewer would like to know your thoughts on being paid based on your work performance versus being compensated solely on your years of experience. As millennial employees continue to dominate the work scene, more and more employees are requesting compensation based on delivered results. Do you feel that you should be paid based on tenure or results? Discuss this with the interviewer and back your answer with an example, if possible.

"Employees should be paid and rewarded based on their performance. A new employee will find motivation in being rewarded for performance, and it encourages healthy competition with tenured employees. However, I also feel that employees with more experience should be paid a higher wage than entry-level employees since they have put the time in and have more expertise and knowledge."

"This a tricky question. On one hand, experience can bring a lot of knowledge and skills to the table. On the other hand, performance is a tangible measure of someone's abilities and can demonstrate their value to a company or organization. Personally, I like to be rewarded for my performance as I am consistently a top performer. It keeps me motivated, and shows I am valued for my hard work."

I believe that performance is more important, especially within data analytics and science. Experience doesn't always mean that someone is the best. I also believe in giving people an opportunity to show what they are made of. It also helps to keep the experienced employees wanting to constantly improve and develop themselves.

Good! You make a great distinction, and bring up an important point as performance vs. experience translated in your industry. This question may be a great time to add a qualifying statement regarding your high-performance attitude. For instance, you could turn the final sentence from a generalization to a 'you' statement. I have provided an example below.

I also believe in giving people an opportunity to show what they are made of. I am eager to improve and develop myself constantly. Through this continued development, my performance will shine regardless of my years of experience."

I personally find it rewarding to be recognized for my performance regardless of experience. Personally, I do feel performance is the key factor that delivers results. I believe strongly in giving people an opportunity to show what they are made of and almost all of the time you will be surprised.
Marcie's Feedback
Nice! Can you talk about a time when you were recognized for your performance and describe how that felt? Also, consider including a sentence or two that explains why experience is also important. Good job!
