"I was working as part of a team on an assignment to streamline a bogged down algorithm. Several members of my team grew confident they could develop a new algorithm that would outperform the original. As they proceeded, they kept running into glitches. Before we knew it, there were so many roundabout fixes we had a spaghetti algorithm on our hands. In the end, what they created was still underperforming. So, instead of joining them in resigning to defeat, I rebooted the project by returning to the original algorithm and writing another simple algorithm that rerouted the beefier information bogging it down into something of an information buffer, while the original algorithm was processing the smaller files. This outperformed the original model and we just barely met our deadline."

Exuding confidence in your own abilities, and touching on the personal philosophy of your approach can go a long way.

Avoid answering this question literally. Sound judgment and logic are the bare minimum. Offering a simple example where you used logic and sound judgment, without delving deeper into what this question has to offer, will only speak to your inexperience. Challenges come with the territory.
