"I'd worked on a group project in developing a complicated algorithm driven by bots. There were two friends who together took command and drove the group in one direction. I had a different approach and asserted my viewpoint, but I was outnumbered and my voice wasn't heard. On the next project, I was determined to yield better results. So I worked in a team effort, but did things my own way and shared what I was doing with others. It was a different approach than everyone else was taking, but I developed an active interest from the rest of the team in what I was accomplishing. Pretty soon, everyone started asking more and more about my approach, adopting it as their own. That felt pretty good. I realized my presumption was what led me astray the first time. Now, I influence just by being me. I think that's what everyone wants, to be successful at being themselves."
