"Before I was promoted to assistant manager, I performed my work as described, but didn't really have a concept of what performing above and beyond looked like. I worked a variety of shifts, from morning prep to opening and closing. Once I got a feel for what each shift required, I performed my work as efficiently as I could. When I closed, I stayed behind to set up those responsible for morning prep. Eventually, as I trained as assistant manager, I got a stronger feel for all the behind-the-scenes stuff, and the importance behind each aspect of the job in ways I was previously unaware of. I set up new systems for how to get everyone on the same page to overperform. The job became easier for everyone. Maybe that's not a good example. I pride myself on going above and beyond. I just wish I could have been an over performer earlier on, knowing what I knew later on."
