Do you demonstrate leadership qualities even when you are not in a leadership role?

"I naturally take on a leader and mentorship role with my coworkers. In one instance, I had a new coworker who was having trouble fitting in. I took her out for lunch and discussed the workplace culture and semantics surrounding the various departments. I wanted her to stay and enjoy her employment with us, so I took on the responsibility of ensuring she was settling in well. I believe there are always leadership opportunities - you just have to keep your eyes open!"

"Yes. I believe everyone on a team can lead in their own way, and I feel leadership can be projected at all times, even when you are not a formal leader. I have taken several leadership courses and invested time in learning how to customize my approach to match the team I am working with. I enjoy developing talent and helping everyone I work with feel comfortable leading in the way best suited for them."

Review common leadership behaviors before an interview. Leadership questions are a missed opportunity for many of my clients because they are unaware of how many of their actions are related to their ability to lead.

Think of how you have demonstrated the following: coaching, inspiration, service, decision-making, motivating, pacesetting, mentoring, teaching, etcetera, and provide a brief example of how you used the skill.
