Talk about a time you had to adapt to a significant change in the workplace. What was the change, and what enabled you to handle it?

"Early in my sales career, around 15 years ago, my organization implemented an online internal order submission system. The change was certainly overwhelming at first, and many of my colleagues were resistant. I took a few steps back and realized that doing things online would help in many ways. It would reduce human error, provide excellent volume tracking, and improve our order fill and delivery times. Knowing these things far outweighed my fear of learning on the online system, I went through the training with open arms, ears, and mind."

"Around five years ago, the organization I was working for was bought out by another large manufacturer. When the purchase was formally announced to staff, most reacted with fear and despair. As a Supply Chain Manager, I had a great working knowledge of the new organization we were about to become and knew that working for a larger organization with a great reputation would benefit our careers. In the first town hall meeting regarding the buy-out, most people had their fears negated when pay and benefits were discussed. We also learned that no layoffs would occur, which sealed the deal for the rest of the staff."

In your answer, they'll be looking to hear that you kept a level head while seeking to understand the reason for the change. Be sure that your interviewer gets a sense that you are open and accepting of changes in the workplace because you see changes as opportunities to grow and succeed.
