In our industry, there is a lot of industry lingo and many acronyms to learn to understand the business here at Philips Healthcare. What are some strategies you've used to acclimate quickly when starting a new job?

"When I started my current job eight years ago, I heard so much unfamiliar terminology during my orientation my first week. Right away, I started making a list. When I had time to ask people or look things up, I'd add them to the list until I knew what everything was. My list became pretty extensive, so the HR person who does onboarding asked me if she could give it to new hires from now on because it was so helpful. I think an approach like this would help me greatly at Philips Healthcare."

"I love Google. In almost any environment, when you don't know something, you can start on Google and go from there. I take the time to research outside of work the elements of the industry that I don't know to get up to speed faster. The intranet site at my current company is also helpful to new staff.
