In the airline industry, communication breakdowns can happen from time to time. Your interviewer needs to be assured that you would join with the ability to handle communication breakdowns in a productive, respectful, and professional manner.

"Last year, I was part of a group project that involved myself and three other students. As we were reaching the heart of the work of the project, one team member wasn't pulling their weight, and one of our teammates chewed her out at a meeting we had together that was scheduled weekly. While some sort of conversation was necessary with the student not doing their part of the work, I didn't agree with our other colleague's approach. I immediately interjected and stopped the student that was yelling at the other. I calmly asked them to calm down and walk away for a bit. After he did that, I talked openly with the slacking student and explained the need to stay on track to ensure the project went as planned. I then asked if she needed any help with anything or if there were any issues. She said her workload for the semester was very hard, but she promised to get caught up by the next week."

"I worked on a team to solve a problem that could affect our ability to grow the business and reach our goals. Each person on the team was tasked with a different aspect, such as gathering data and analyzing it. We came together to discuss the results but couldn't seem to agree. We were struggling to listen to each person's opinion. I explained my observation, and I suggested we give each person a chance to talk through their findings and opinions, which helped us take a more collaborative approach and come up with an effective solution."

If possible, give an example of a time when you couldn't explain what you needed from other team members, or talk about how one of your team members couldn't communicate effectively in an important situation. Be sure to include the outcome of the situation and what you did to repair the communication issue. This will show that you can handle any communication issues on the job at Jetstar Airways.
