QUESTION 21 OF 30

How do you respond to negative feedback?

Whether it is a permanent role or an internship, you will receive feedback on your work. Performing the basics of your job while hoping no news equates to good news demonstrates a lack of leadership potential. So they're trying to determine if you seek feedback or wait for others to come to you. Additionally, the interviewer is curious to know how you respond to negative feedback. How you answer will inform them of your emotional intelligence and whether you're open to constructive criticism. As a professional, learning how to respond when given a performance review and any negative feedback is as important as the feedback itself.

"While I always strive to work hard so I don't receive negative feedback, I know that there are truths to be distilled, which are aspects that can help me. I'd rather be given negative feedback so I know which areas I need to improve instead of not knowing where I'm falling short."

Also, show the interviewer that you can be professional and receptive to feedback that might not feel good to hear but could lead to your improvement. You can't always predict what they may say, and you also can't always predict how you might feel, but you can learn how to master your feelings and choose how to respond. A career-minded professional distinguishes the information of value, adapts, learns how to apply that information to grow and continue to survive. It equates to ambition. This boils down to your emotional intelligence and being able to objectify the information you are receiving and separate it from the person delivering the feedback, or how effectively they are delivering it. Be honest in your answer and demonstrate you can take negative feedback and learn from it.
