When sharing your greatest strengths and greatest weaknesses, you'll be sharing your level of professional experience, your emotional intelligence, and your self-awareness. You'll inform your interviewer of whether you take ownership of your growth opportunities. When answering this question, be honest and sincere. Share a strength that you are proud of and a weakness that you are aware of and actively working on. Admitting to your weakness is, in itself, a sign of great strength.
"One of my strengths is my laser-sharp focus. I have a keen eye for detail and am very analytical by nature. This also lends to my outside-of-the-box view and my own unique brand of innovation. My mind is always taking things apart and putting them back together better. So I am frequently streaming systems with a focus on simplicity and preserving assets by eliminating unnecessary expenditures. However, on the flip side of this coin is one of my weaknesses, and that is how I tend to be introverted and have difficulty making my voice known or heard. I've been working on finding my voice when meeting with upper-level management. While I know the ideas I bring to the table are valuable, I've always struggled to put myself out there, especially when talking to people in positions of authority. So I have been working on feeling more confident when I pitch ideas. I've primarily focussed on this growth opportunity the last few months, and one of my colleagues even recently commented that he had noticed a tremendous improvement in me making my contributions known rather than being a stealth worker."
When answering this question, avoid volunteering a weakness that's a core competency for the job. Reflect on traits you are actively working on, and which EY can potentially help with your development. EY's ideal candidates have developed "high levels of self-awareness to recognise their areas of strength and weakness. This will enable them to identify where they need to deliberately practice, refine, and exercise."
