Would your former or current boss say you gladly go the extra mile to complete your tasks?

The interviewer is trying to determine if you prefer to stick to the routine, enjoy the status quo, and meet expectations, or if your standard is padding the job, exceeding expectations, and consistently going the extra mile. However, actions speak louder than words. Offer them a real-life example to illustrate to your interviewer what this looks like to you. You want to showcase yourself as a clutch player, and that above and beyond is your status quo.

"My former boss would describe me as an employee who goes the extra mile. In my most recent position, I was always available through email, and many of my service clients had my cell phone number just in case of an after-hours emergency. When you call my reference, I am sure he will be happy to expand on that for you."

"I hope so! I have always put my best foot forward, and I dislike being bored. I go the extra mile whenever possible because that's what great employees do! I have received positive feedback from all of my previous employers."
