Describe the best manager you've ever worked with? What made their management style stand apart?

I'll never forget them. They really took an active interest in my development. They trusted me, and any time they had to followup on something with me it was always with the benefit of the doubt and with a helpful hand. I know some respond to a heavy hand, but to me a great manager is someone who exemplifies leadership. They recognize the value of each member of the team. There is no 'I' in team, as the saying goes.

I liked that manager because they were hands off. We could do anything we wanted. Under their watch, it was a party, and the job was easy. We still go out drinking all the time and play golf together. Once he was fired, I decided to start looking for another job, which is why I'm here.
