This question is aimed at determining whether you take ownership of your mistakes and setbacks and examine what you could have done better, ensuring you don't repeat the same mistakes over and over again. How you learn from such things will inform your interviewer whether you take charge of your development and whether you are conducted by integrity. One of Cerners' values is Commit And Deliver. They state, "We do what we say we will do, on time, with quality." So when you offer an example of where you suffered a setback or a failure, detail how you took ownership of your mistakes, addressing them in a timely manner, and how you learned from them so the next time, you'd perform better.

"There was a time when I was working on a solitary project that didn't involve the rest of the group. I was quite proud of my progress and believed I was set to deliver way ahead of my deadlines. And I informed my supervisors that my work would be turned in early and would be ready soon. But when I was close to turning in my work, I realized I'd missed a crucial step, which required me to perform a bit of rework and correction before it would be ready to turn in. So I hung my head and admitted to it. I quickly developed some checks and measures to ensure I didn't make the same mistake again in the future. Then I quickly performed the rework and still delivered on time. But I was still disappointed and embarrassed about having over-promised."
