How do you approach problems where you don't have all the information needed to come up with a risk-free solution?
This question is about how resourceful you are and your approach to taking calculated risks. How you answer stands to inform your interviewer whether you are protective of the company's assets and the welfare of the team and their goals, or whether you gamble hoping to win big and advance your career through a more reckless approach. Best Buy says that they expect their employees to exhibit grace and to contribute to "an environment to take calculated risks and learn from mistakes. Strategy does NOT start with 'what.' It has to first be anchored in a clear purpose."
"I am an active listener and pay close attention to the type of decisions our supervisors are comfortable making when it comes to risk. I also take the time to make sure everything I do is ethically aligned with the company. So, if I have no real sense beyond those elements of how to proceed, I won't assume. I will consult with others. If it feels like too much of a gamble, and the cost of making the wrong choice quickly is greater than making the right choice later, I will make the choice of waiting. But that's the thing about taking a calculated risk. It's calculus."
