Management of social programs is a key responsibility of some university administrator roles. To prepare for this question think through the various types of programs and events you have coordinated and/or participated in. University events or events for other educational institutions are best, but you can add events you may have managed for a business or volunteer organization if your university experience is limited. Make a quick list of the events, the number of attendees, the event/program budget, as well as any key details regarding the resources required or vendors you coordinated with.
If your experience is extensive in this area, walk your interviewer through the general types of events or programs you have experience coordinating. Follow up with a few key metrics to help them understand the scale (budget, number of participants, etc.).
If your experience is limited, walk your interviewer through any experience you have that translates to this type of work in a university setting. For example, you may regularly coordinate business travel and meetings as an executive admin. You may organize large events on behalf of your church. Walk your interviewer through your experience and be sure to end by letting them know you are excited to take on greater responsibilities in this area if hired.

"In my current role, I manage programs that assist international students. This includes securing housing, assisting with socialization, and helping them learn the culture of our country and the university itself. We currently have over 1500 international students who are from over 130 countries worldwide.
I regularly organize social and learning events and I am also the point person for our volunteer families that invite international students to stay with them during holidays. The budgets vary by event and depend on the resources and vendors necessary for success. I enjoy this aspect of my work and look forward to managing the social programs related with the administrator role here at XYZ University"
