"I partnered with HR last year to develop a plan to gather employee feedback on their benefits packages. The effort resulted in several important data points, but we discovered that employees across the company were frustrated with the insurance options. I led a team that met with focus groups from various departments and seniority levels across the company to validate and understand the feedback.
We uncovered that many employees were confused about the HSA and FSA options, the implications of contributing, and the company match programs. We noted that many people couldn't determine which plan best suited their needs. The options were confusing, and the language to explain them was unclear.
My team and I worked on a multifaceted plan to improve the benefits option communication before enrollment for the following year. We developed many easy-to-use scenario-based guides with calculations that would apply to most situations and help them understand the effects of each option. Additionally, we held meetings online and invited employees and their dependents to ask questions. We also had HR staff available for private meetings to discuss complex scenarios.
The program was a huge success. We ran a survey after the program and found that the information we provided was valuable to the employees during enrollment. We plan to do something similar next year, and we incorporated similar reviews into new hire training. This was my most impactful project because it helped reduce confusion, improve employee satisfaction, and ensure that individuals and families were confident they selected their best option."
