The interviewer asks this question to gain insight into your personality and to see how you decompress from the stressors of work. Additionally, they want to see if your hobbies and interests align with others on the team to gauge how well you might work together. Even if your interests are not the same as others, it doesn't mean you will not be offered the job. The interviewer simply wants to see how compatible you might be with your crew.

Focus on three or four healthy activities you enjoy doing in your free time. Your hobbies or activities can include bow hunting, mountain bike riding, martial arts, playing with your kids, reading, playing a musical instrument, or camping with the family. It is your personal choice what you like to do in your free time, and the interviewer wants to hear what that is.

Avoid mentioning hobbies that the interviewer might deem unprofessional or indecent. For example, if you enjoy adult entertainment or getting drunk with your friends, the interviewer may look at those activities as unbecoming for an employee representing their company. Even though those activities are perfectly legal and you enjoy them on your days off, you may want to keep that to yourself!

"In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family. I have two teenage sons and a wife, and we like doing things together. We enjoy camping, dirt bike riding, mountain biking, and scuba diving. I recently learned how to play golf, so I have been spending quite some time at the driving range, as well."
