How to Answer: Do you have reliable transportation?
Advice and answer examples written specifically for a Construction Superintendent job interview.
3. Do you have reliable transportation?
Why the Interviewer Asks This Question
The interviewer asks this question to determine if you will be punctual and show up to work when scheduled. By law, the interviewer cannot ask if you own a vehicle, as that is a discriminatory question. However, they can ask if you have reliable transportation if that is a job requirement.

Focus Your Answer On
Focus on the type of reliable transportation you will use if hired. Reliable transportation can include a private vehicle, public transportation, taxi, motorcycle, bicycle, carpool, or walking. Assure the interviewer that transportation and showing up to work on time will not be an issue if they choose to hire you.

What to Avoid
Avoid saying that you do not know how you will get to work if hired. If you have not addressed how to get to work, the interviewer will question your dependability and critical-thinking skills.

Answer Example
"Yes, I have two forms of reliable transportation. I have a 2020 Ford F350 and a 2018 Honda motorcycle. I like to ride my bike when the weather is good and use my truck when the weather is not so good. Both are very reliable, and I have never had an issue with either breaking down. If you choose to hire me, you will not have to worry about me not showing up to work on time."
