Activity Directors must be active and in good physical shape since most agencies require standing or walking for long periods, bending, squatting, and lifting heavy objects. The interviewer wants to hear that you have the qualities they are looking for. Describe how you stay in shape and why you feel it is essential to do so.

"I am in excellent physical shape and have no medical problems. I can walk and stand for long periods and prefer that to sitting at a desk all day. I am very active and exercise at least four to five days a week. I enjoy full-body workouts that work all muscle groups and non-impact cardio exercises, such as cycling and swimming. I feel it is important to stay in shape so I can be a good role model for my family and the residents I work with."

Yes, I prefer to be more physically active than to sit all day. I can easily stand and walk as needed. I do have some issues with my lower back and cannot lift very heavy objects. This is my only restriction. I will be continuing to exercise regularly to keep healthy and in good shape. I also wear good quality shoes to ensure that I can remain active throughout the day.
