Why is it important that YouTube combats hateful and abusive content or commenting on our platform?
YouTube plays an active part in fighting cyberbullying, harassment, and hate speech on their platform daily. This can often be a challenging task. While this is undoubtedly an ethical question, your interviewer will be looking to hear that you understand why curbing these types of behaviors on their platform is important. Before your interview, be sure to think about some good talking points that demonstrate why abusive and hateful comments/content are harmful to the company. Rather than getting into your own political and societal views, try to keep your answer focused on why combatting this behavior is important for the company. In the end, there is no real right or wrong answer here, as your interviewer wants to see that you have some valuable insight to offer.
"I know that YouTube strives every day to give the world a voice and give people their chance to tell a story through your amazing platform. Abusive content and comments on the site will ultimately drive users away, and in turn, will drive away ad revenue. While there are some bad apples out there, most of the general public are good people and want to come to a place online where content is safe, secure, and free from bullying. I was glad to recently read about YouTube's efforts to track harmful comments on the site and the warnings that users receive when a post may be offensive to others."
