Avoid offering suggestions for brand new programs or giving recommendations for major, unrealistic overhauls. Instead, share small, operational changes you have made to programs in the past that may improve the efficiency of WFP USA's programs.
"I was impressed to read about your reducing food loss program. Food waste is one of the biggest factors related to global hunger, and I was excited to see how WFP USA works to be better stewards of our resources on Earth. In college, I began a partnership with the company that contracted with our dining halls to provide food for students. Through a research project, I determined that they were throwing away perfectly good food at the end of the day. So, we partnered with a local soup kitchen to donate that food that would typically be discarded. If WFP could model this on a larger scale, I think it would greatly enhance their efforts!"
"Two years ago, I had the wonderful opportunity to volunteer at an orphanage in the Philippines. The youth were taught farming techniques and managed a garden where they grew crops and raised chickens. They also learned how to cook the vegetables and fruits they grew in the garden and break down and prepare the chickens for consumption. Essentially, they provided their breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day. I loved reading about WFP USA's female farmers and school meal programs. I think teaching youth to farm in the same way WFP USA teaches adult women would greatly benefit the communities you serve with these programs."
