"I worked on a team to solve a problem that could have potential effects on our ability to grow the business and reach our goals. Each person on the team was tasked with a different aspect, such as gathering data and analyzing it. We came together to discuss the results but couldn't seem to agree. We were struggling to listen to each person's opinion. I explained my observation, and I suggested we give each person a chance to talk through their findings and opinions, which helped us take a more collaborative approach."

While volunteering overseas, I had to teach English and French to children who only spoke Russian. The staff members had very basic knowledge of English, and communicating with them was a challenge.
I was able to determine their needs by facial expressions and learning basic conversational Russian. I believe finding common middle ground is what helps to overcome a communication issue on a team.

Rachelle's Feedback
Very solid example, and well done in terms of finding a way to communicate despite various language barriers.

I worked once in a place where my role depended on the use of an assistant, so communication between the assistant and myself was key. I proposed that at the end of each day, we have a ten-minute meeting to communicate to each other the areas we needed to improve upon, what was done that day, and what could be done in the future to make our performance better.

Amanda's Feedback
You've shared how you worked with your assistant to improve communication and performance. However, consider starting by sharing what the initial problem was that inspired you to take action. Were tasks being completed late? Did phone messages get lost? Sharing how communication became a problem in the first place gives the interviewer clearer insight into the appropriateness of your solution.
