This question is an icebreaker. It's intended to get you to lower your guard and relax and determine if your personality fits the role. The interviewer also wants to get to know you better to more accurately evaluate your responses. Nonverbal cues are collected as data points. HireVue assesses those data points to identify the top performers and those who'll be most suited to the company's goals and culture. It also allows for side-by-side comparisons with the other candidates. There are no do-overs, and you'll only get one opportunity to record your answers. You'll be allowed roughly 20-30 seconds per question to formulate your response. You'll get three minutes to record each answer, so practice beforehand.

Hirevue uses proprietary machine learning algorithms that analyze data points found in the video interview, which allows the company's hiring authority to study those non-verbal cues, such as facial expressions, eye movements, body movements, clothes details, and voice nuances. Keep it natural. Show your personality. Wear professional clothing appropriate to the role. Maintain eye contact with the camera as if you're speaking face-to-face with a person. Make sure to speak clearly, and avoid speech crutches and long pauses.

"I grew up in a Bayshore, Long Island, NY. As soon as I was legally able to, I got a job in marketing with my uncle's advertising firm while on my summer vacation from school. I took a gap year before college for business management and administration. I've always had a strong work ethic. I graduated from high school with a 4.0 GPA and repeated this success throughout my four years of college."
