Describe your process for learning how to use a new application in the workplace.
"My first step in learning a new application would be to ask around to see if there is any documentation such as a quick reference guide available. Likewise, I would look within the application to see if there are tutorials, training guides, or automated help functions, and I would review those.
I would use what I learned and navigate through the application on my own as best I could. If there was a training or test environment to learn in, I would take advantage of that. From there, I would have a list of questions prepped and ready. I would schedule time with a subject matter expert or a peer to ask them to walk me through the functions I need guidance on."
Microsoft interviewers ask questions like these to gain insight into a candidate's thought process behind various tasks. This question tests a candidate's ability to demonstrate a systematic approach to learning something new.
Remember to begin your process with various activities you can do on your own. Microsoft interviewers value candidates that are self-starters and those who know how to leverage information that is readily available.
