In the upscale and luxury service environment, the costs of goods and services the hotel provides need to be kept in check without minimizing the guest experience. A good hotel manager will be able to negotiate with outside vendors on the price of their goods, attempting to maximize profits. Reassure the hiring manager that you recognize this as part of your duties.

"The purchasing director and myself review all corporate contracts for anything that the hotel uses every six months to determine if there are any opportunities for savings. In addition, I have experience in negotiating with outside of vendors for toiletries, and other items to ensure that we shouldn't change to a different purveyor in order to lower our room costs."
