This question assesses your confidence, self-awareness, and honesty about your shortcomings. It will also help them determine if you allow your shortcomings to control you or if you actively pursue self-growth. Being able to admit to your weaknesses exhibits strength of character and exhibits you are taking your career and professional growth seriously. Choose shortcomings that benefit the greater good. A well-intentioned shortcoming or a growth opportunity you've self-identified that is integral to your career goals would be a good example. Practice being in a comfortable and confident headspace when answering this question.

HireVue's proprietary machine learning algorithms collect verbal and non-verbal cues as data points, such as facial expressions, eye movements, body movements, clothing details, and vocal nuances. That information is then passed onto the company's hiring authority, depending on the package they've signed up for with the assessment vendor. Some request only the recorded videos and no assessment reports. Some request the report as well, while others request a screening and only receive those which pass the algorithm's tests. When the hiring authority receives the recorded interviews, it allows them to compare your performance with the other candidates who went through the HireVue interview sets. This process removes personal bias while simultaneously offering insights the recruiter may have otherwise missed.

Because of my ability to plan and prioritize, I have the tendency to take on too much responsibility which sometimes puts a lot of stress on myself as an individual. I also tend to shy away from public speaking because I get nervous.

Although I acknowledge that no one is flawless and that personal development is a continual journey, I am currently focusing on improving my public speaking skills. Although I am adept at communicating financial information to colleagues and clients in one-on-one settings, I experience difficulty presenting to larger groups or delivering speeches in public. In order to overcome this shortcoming, I have actively sought out opportunities to enhance my public speaking skills, such as attending speaking workshops and volunteering to present at team meetings. While there is still much work to be done, I am confident that with sustained effort and practice, I can enhance my confidence and efficacy as a public speaker. Furthermore, I feel that my expertise in analytical thinking, meticulousness, and leadership enable me to excel in my capacity as an external audit manager.

One area I've been focusing on improving is the amount of time I unnecessarily spend on attention to detail. I tend to spend a lot of time reviewing my work, even down to small details like email responses to team members or coworkers. To address this, I've been checking in with myself regularly and making sure to refocus on the bigger picture. I want to ensure quality without getting too caught up in the details. I've recognized that my weakness was struggling to strike the right balance, but I am actively working on maintaining a perspective on the bigger picture while still maintaining attention to detail.

My biggest weakness is balancing between being action-oriented and detail-oriented.
For instance, about a year ago my boss said she loved how action-oriented I am but that I could pay more focus on being precise, and detail-oriented in my work. I thought deeply about how to get better, and I realized that I did not ask enough questions when I got assignments, so I didn't fully understand which details were important. I’ve been practicing digging into the “why” of every assignment before beginning.
It is different for me, because I like to jump in and figure things out on my own, but by finding the right balance of asking the right questions and working independently I’ve seen a dramatic improvement in the last year of me delivering exactly what my boss needs.
