Which do you prefer, working in a team-based environment or by yourself?
The interviewer wants to see in which situation you are the happiest and most productive. Talk to the interviewer about your preference for teamwork or working individually. Be sure to avoid pigeonholing yourself into one particular scenario (i.e., I only like to work alone). You may work well without needing much management or direction, or perhaps you are better driven in a collaborative and team-led environment. Either way, be honest with the interviewer about your preferences without leaning negatively, either way.
"I always give my best, whether I am doing an independent project or working in a team environment. I enjoy the camaraderie of working in a team, but I can also be successful working autonomously."
"I have found, in the past, that I work well in an individually driven environment; however, I can certainly be productive in a team-based setting."
It is best to say you can work on a team and by yourself. However, you want to ensure your preference aligns with the role you are interviewing for. If you are interviewing for a position that requires a team approach, you want to lean more towards preferring to work in a team-based environment.
