We like to hire strong achievers. Give me an example of a time you went above and beyond.
At CarMax, they advertise that "to this day, we encourage our associates to explore their curiosity and relentlessly pursue bold, new ideas for delivering experiences that are not only great, but iconic." So your interviewer is curious about what lengths you go to deliver an 'iconic' experience. How you answer will inform them of your work ethic and whether you do more than the bare minimum or go beyond your usual day-to-day expectations. So when you answer, demonstrate that your standard is above and beyond, and the bare minimum is below your standard.
"During my previous position, we had a client who could not come to pick up their item during normal business hours. I volunteered to stay afterward, as we needed to help them. They came about 30 minutes after we had closed, and they were very grateful for my willingness to stay and help them."
"Just yesterday, I had a customer make a purchase, and I noticed that she was struggling with her belongings. She had a stroller, a couple of kids, and a lot of bags to carry. I offered to help her to her car, and she gratefully accepted. It felt excellent to go above the call of duty that day."
