The interviewer wants to understand how you solve problems when they arise in the workplace. In any job, there are bound to be issues that come up, either with a coworker or a customer. The interviewer wants to hear that you handle adversity and conflicts while remaining calm and professional.

If you have never faced a problem at work before, avoid simply responding that you have not had a problem at work. Even if you have never encountered a problem at work, you should follow up in your response with how you would approach the issue.

"Yes, I recently faced a problem where I currently work. I work part-time at a coffee shop and had two of my coworkers call in sick, leaving me alone to run the entire shop. My supervisor was on vacation and could not be reached, so my coworkers texted me to say they would not be in. It was a Sunday which is one of our busiest days, and I knew I could not handle it on my own. I called every employee on the list and was able to get two staff members to come in during the rush hour. It worked out, but it was stressful trying to serve customers while making phone calls to find people to cover."
