The interviewer asks this question to determine if you have additional skills to benefit their company if hired. CVS has many customers who speak foreign languages, and they want to see if you speak any fluently to serve their customers better. CVS has a summer Spanish Immersion Internship, so they are dedicated to providing quality service to their customers.

Focus on describing any foreign languages you speak fluently. If you are not fluent in any other language, tell the interviewer of any classes you have taken and how you would rate your skills. For example, if you had two years of Spanish in high school and can speak a little conversational Spanish, explain that in your response. Be sure to let the interviewer know you are open to taking any foreign language speaking classes to improve your skills, showing your dedication to the profession.

Avoid saying you are fluent in a foreign language if you are not. If you say you are fluent and the interviewer chooses you over other candidates based on your foreign language skills, it will be apparent when speaking with foreign language-speaking customers that you are not as advanced as you said you were. Also, they may ask you to take a foreign language fluency test before offering you the position, so you want to be completely honest.

"I am fluent in American Sign Language as my mother is deaf. I also speak conversational Spanish, but I would not consider myself fluent. I took two years of Spanish in high school and have traveled extensively to Latin countries. I have always been able to understand the language and make myself understood, but I am interested in improving my skills. I see that you have a Spanish Immersion Internship, which I am very interested in participating in."
