Rachelle Enns is an interview coach and job search expert. She works with candidates to perform their best in employment, medical, and post-secondary admission interviews.
"For the last six years, I have worked under a Director who is a typically defined type-A personality. Communicating properly and effectively was difficult at first. I learned that my Director wanted me to regularly communicate timelines for projects and give updates frequently, as she was very time-driven. Although this was not the work style I was accustomed to, I quickly adapted to her desired approach, which helped our work relationship flourish. Engaging in small talk certainly isn't her priority, so our communication remains highly succinct. In this role, I would feel very comfortable working with high-level type A's and adjusting to their desired workflows and communication preferences."

People with strong or 'type-A' personalities are often competitive, motivated, organized, and goal-driven. These traits can lead people to succeed in high-level roles. So, as a Consultant, you have a high chance of working with many strong-minded leaders. Think of when you worked with a 'typical' type-A personality and explain your approach to ensuring a sound and successful working relationship. Show the interviewer that you can work effectively with driven individuals who hold high expectations of your work and results.
