"After a new nurse hire completes the general orientation, I like to review their learning and comprehension to make certain it's solid. In some ways, that allows me to start the conversation with them and see how they learn. Each unit is different, but I like to start with an introduction to other nurses and match them up with different mentors they'll be working alongside. I've created the standard scavenger hunt for the unit layout and some awesome PowerPoint presentations for how the unit works. I have them follow me for a shift, so they see the general layout of the unit and how each nurse fits into that system. As a Band 7 Manager, I would love to learn your method for training new staff and see where I can incorporate my methods."

Before your Band 7 Manager interview, think about the methods you are familiar with for training new nurses. While you won't be 100% familiar with the training process already in place in the job you are interviewing for, you want to come prepared to talk about your experiences in training new staff and what has worked the best.
