"First, I would try not to make assumptions or judgments about the situation. As a highly effective nursing trainer, I would have already established a protocol in the unit on how to report essential information, so hopefully, that is in place when my team member reports the need for help. My first task when entering a situation like this would be to assess the need for stabilization and develop a plan. If it's emergent, I would activate the emergency system and help my staff along the way. If it's a challenging patient by behaviors, I would implement the nursing process quickly in my head and look at the subjective and objective information first and assess what needs to be done. Once the challenging patient was handled properly, I would use the moment as a training situation for my staff and answer all questions they may have."
