Retaining skilled nurses can be a challenge. What steps will you take to retain staff as our Band 7 Manager?
As a Band 7 Manager, you will be subjected to exhausting physical, mental, and emotional conditions. Your interviewer knows that many nurses suffer from burnout, and they want to hear that you will focus on using tactics to motivate and retain your staff when times get tough.
"I'm a firm believer in providing work-life balance for any team, and I would bring this philosophy as your next Band 7 Manager. My first step in improving retention would be communicating with my team to see where there are barriers and how we can overcome them. Some retention methods I implemented in my last role included flexible shifts, shift differential pay for nurses working overnight, a generous PTO policy, team-building activities, and more. As a result, we saw a 20 percent increase in nurse retention."
If possible, come to your Band 7 Manager interview ready to give specific examples of methods you have used or been a part of in the past to retain nursing talent. Your answer can include actions such as working to maintain a healthy work environment, a positive and uplifting culture, and an always open door for concerns to be brought to your attention.
