"One of my goals in leadership is to create an inclusive workplace culture, and I'm a firm believer that gossip breaks down that culture, breeds distrust, and ultimately impacts patient care. I lead by example and would always speak plainly about a no-gossip policy in the unit and explain the reasons. If I were to catch wind of false gossip in my ward, I would communicate with my entire team as soon as possible. Depending on the situation, I would try not to call out individuals but rather clarify information in communication and ask people to come to me with questions. I believe that most professional nurses are smart enough to know when a toxic rumor is going around, and I'd be encouraging them to help stop it."
