How would you define strategic thinking?
General counsels are often members of the executive team, which guides the organization into the next phase of its business. Your interviewer wants to know that, in addition to tackling day-to-day operations, you can provide a strategy to grow the business.
Provide your general thoughts on implementing strategic thinking. Include a specific example where you successfully applied such a strategy.
"I think the most important part of strategic thinking is communicating the goals that the team has developed. If the executive team is aware of what needs to be accomplished in the next year, but that information never filters down to every employee, the strategy will never be effectively implemented. It is also important to find those individuals who know how to activate a strategy. I was a member of a committee that was responsible for enhancing the corporate culture of the organization. When the committee met, we realized how easy it is to get stuck discussing the hypotheticals of what we wanted to implement. I realized how important action is when developing new ideas."
