Have you supervised or managed others before?
As assistant general counsel, there may be others on your team who will report to you. This may include other junior attorneys, paralegals, administrative assistants, or interns. The interviewer may simply want to know if you have managerial experience, and they may follow up with questions about your management style (if you have previously supervised others).
If you have supervised others in previous positions, take this opportunity to explain your management philosophy. If you do not have managerial experience, you can still provide insight into which management styles you have seen that worked well in your previous positions.
"While I have not worked in an official management capacity yet, I have had the opportunity to assign tasks to administrative assistants. Our legal team at X Corporation had two administrative assistants who helped the entire legal team. However, they directly reported to our general counsel. I was extremely grateful when they helped me with administrative tasks. When I asked them for help, I would be sure to fully explain the requirements and my timetable.
